1106 CLINICALCHEMISTRY,Vol. 26, No. 7, 1980 knowledge of the relative precision characteristics of the two compared methods (2-4). When such information is lacking, the best that can be done is probably to put A equal to 1. Unless there is an uncommonly large discrepancy in precision between the two methods, this will be more realistic in comparison studies than the assumption, implicit in the use of a leastsquares regression, that one of the methods has zero imprecision. For Schall et al.’s data set (1), with A 1 we find the Deming regression line to be

Measurment of stable Glycosylated Hemoglobin (Hb A1) and Its unstable type (pre- Hb A1c) with the lon- exchange Chromatography in Diabetic patients

SUMMARY: At present, measurment of glycosylated hemoglobin, especially the stable fraction of hemoglobin (HbA1c) is one of the ways to control diabetes because this measurment can demonstrate total glycemia during last 1.2.3 months. Glycosylated hemoglobin is seen in 3 forms: Ala Alb A1c. Among these hemoglobin Alc is quantitively more than other 2 forms and its difference with other hemoglobi...

Agar gel electrophoretic determination of glycosylated hemoglobin: effect of variant hemoglobins, hyperlipidemia, and temperature.

We investigated the effect of temperature, variant hemoglobins, and hyperlipidemia on determination of glycosylated hemoglobin by an electrophoretic method (Clin. Chem. 26: 1598-1602, 1980). We found that: (a) temperature variations ranging from 4 to 30 degrees C were without effect on results obtained by electrophoresis; (b) concurrent determination of glycosylated hemoglobin by electrophoresi...

Measurement of glycosylated hemoglobins using boronate affinity chromatography.

A boronate affinity column method for the measurement of glycosylated hemoglobins was evaluated. In the procedure the glycosylated hemoglobins were bound by immobilized boronic acid to separate them from nonglycosylated hemoglobins. Elution of bound glycosylated hemoglobins was carried out with sorbitol buffer, and the absorbance was read at 414 nm. The method was linear to a glycosylated hemog...

Improved rapid procedure for simultaneous determinations of hemoglobins A1a, A1b, A1c, F, C, and S, with indication for acetylation or carbamylation by cation-exchange liquid chromatography.

Although the clinical utility of glycohemoglobin (HbA1c) as an indicator of blood glucose control is generally accepted, the use of cation-exchange liquid chromatography for its quantification is controversial, given numerous studies that show no correlation between HbA1c and other indicators of blood glucose control in uremic subjects. We report a specific cation-exchange liquid-chromatographi...

Proportion of glycosylated hemoglobin in erythrocytes of a person with hemoglobins A, S, and G Philadelphia.

The apparent proportion of column-chromatographically measured glycosylated hemoglobin in erythrocytes from an individual with hemoglobins A, S, and G was only 2.3% because the slow glycosylated variant hemoglobins were retarded in the column. In contrast, the value for glycosylated hemoglobin was 7.8% by a new cellulose acetate electrophoretic method that includes use of dextran sulfate buffer...
